Fairfax County Releases Results of 2019 Rental Housing Complex Analysis

  • There were 81,501 rental apartments and townhouses in Fairfax County (up 2.5% from the previous year)

  • 10,733 units were located in subsidized complexes

  • Average monthly rent for housing complexes without subsidies was $1,877 (up $79, or 4.4%, from the previous year)

This is just a sampling of the data released with Fairfax County’s 2019 Rental Housing Complex Analysis Report*.

The annual Rental Housing Complex Analysis Report provides summary level data on a variety of rental housing topics including inventory of rental units, vacancy rate, monthly rental costs, and more. Information is broken down by supervisor districts, planning districts, age of complex, unit type, structure type and year. Information found in the report is frequently used for a variety of purposes including cost of living analysis, housing eligibility and more.

The Rental Housing Complex Analysis Report is prepared annually by the Economic, Demographic and Statistical Research Unit of the Department of Management and Budget. Questions regarding this report may be submitted via email to DMBInfo@fairfaxcounty.gov.
