“ACT” Now To Jumpstart Your Career in the Healthcare Industry

The Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development has joined forces with a number of community partners to provide the Avenues to Career Training program – an 8-week career training program to help Fairfax County residents investigate and pursue careers in the medical field. The program provides students the opportunity to:

  • Explore medical career options

  • Meet and hear from industry professionals representing a variety of occupations

  • Visit and tour healthcare provider locations

  • Obtain First Aid, CPR and Mental Health First Aid certifications

  • Research and present an individual career plan

“Initially, I joined the ACT program with the intention of becoming a health aid,” said participant Rodjae Gatlin. “I’m proud to say I learned something new about myself through ACT and realized I was better placed as a pharmacy technician.”

Rodjae joined more than 30 students who participated in the ACT program over the last year. Graduates from ACT have gone on to obtain Certified Medical Assistant credentials in a variety of disciplines and many began Nursing Studies at Northern Virginia Community College.
